Coalesce is a research through design project that seeks to generate intersections between the gender binaries present in industrial design through the use of generative AI models. As a result of the master's thesis project in Product Design at the Cantonal School of Art and Design in Lausanne (ECAL), Coalesce offers a discourse around the formal design language related to identities beyond gender expression, and questions aesthetic values such as colors, textures, and finishes attributed to traditional archetypes.

The razor is one of the most marketed products through female and male identification, even though its function is essentially the same. Through experimentation with generative AI, Coalesce displays a collection of razors that, by combining characteristics present in the aesthetics of the beauty industry, offer alternatives for the way we perceive this and other utilitarian objects.

These intersections aim to define and visualize a gender-fluid design language, to facilitate the exploration, acceptance, and awareness of the diverse identities that make up our society; through products with which we can all feel represented.
